Hermosa Beach Patch readers weigh in on the city's decision to move forward with competitive bid process for waste collection contract and the South Bay Bike Master Plan.

The Hermosa Beach City Council decided in a meeting Tuesday to move forward and seek proposals for a competitive bidding process for the city's waste collection contract.

The Public Works Commission on Wednesday approved the South Bay Bike Master Plan's final report. Here are some of the reader responses Patch received this week:

With the city’s waste collection contract with Consolidated Disposal Service scheduled to end next year in December, the Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday voted 4-1 to seek proposals for a competitive bid process. One Patch reader commented:

  • "Why can't you just leave well enough alone. Consoldated does a great job, is very reasonable and has a good recycling program. In a time of limited budgets, our leaders waste money on consultants, etc. to fix what is not broken. I guarantee trash service will cost residents more after all these studies are done." — wrote

The on Wednesday unanimously approved the , which aims to improve the area's accessibility for bicyclists and walkers by expanding bike paths in seven South Bay cities: El Segundo, Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Lawndale, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and Torrance.

At the time Patch reported on the Public Works Commission's decision, all the South Bay cities' commissions had approved the plan except Redondo Beach and Gardena. One Patch reader commented:

  • "This is so cool! Hopefully, Redondo Beach and Gardena will soon see the cycling light as well." — wrote
