Cookie Challenge at Fiesta Hermosa

How many cookies and scoops of ice cream can you eat in four minutes? Tap into your inner cookie monster with Chunk-n-Chip at this year's Labor Day Fiesta Hermosa.

Calling all cookie monsters: the Chunk-n-Chip food truck aims to satisfy your sweet tooth as it will have a booth at the upcoming during Labor Day weekend in Hermosa Beach.

The cookie ice cream sandwich parlor on wheels has been serving the Hermosa Beach area since 2005, becoming a local staple. Residents and visitors will see a Chunk-n-Chip table at this year's Labor Day "fiesta."

"We started out with Fiesta Hermosa five years ago, both Memorial and Labor Day, we go back every year. I really consider Hermosa our hometown with the business," Chunk-n-Chip founder Claudia Gonzalez told Patch last week.

Another tradition that has emerged at Chunk-n-Chip (and will be ever-present at Fiesta Hermosa) is the "cookie challenge."

Wherever the truck is stationed, patrons are challenged to eat in less than four minutes a Chunk-n-Chip ice cream tower made of six cookies, five ice cream scoops and a topping in each layer. Gonzalez said that so far all of the winners have been men.

"I don't know how they do it," she said.

Winners receive their money back for the ice cream tower purchase, their photo and time on the "booyah" wall of fame, and the ice cream tower is named after them until there's a new winner.

The challenge runs for the rest of the year.
