Council to Revisit Outdoor Dining, Styrofoam

The Hermosa Beach City Council again will discuss what kind of items local businesses can place on public sidewalks, outdoor smoking and use of Styrofoam takeout containers.

The Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday will revisit its discussion on how to placed on public walkways around town.

The discussion follows the city’s  campaign, which forced business owners over the summer to take down items placed on public sidewalks if they had not paid the city liability insurance and held the proper permits.

Now the council will discuss whether to allow outdoor dining along sidewalks in the city's commercial districts.

The council also is scheduled to hear a report on outdoor smoking and its impact on the public. Council members have discussed briefly a possible , and will consider scheduling a public hearing for next month to discuss the idea further.

Another practice the council will deliberate is the use of Styrofoam take-out food containers. Council members in May decided to take a deeper look at often distributed in restaurants and whether the containers should be banned as a danger to the environment.

The council will discuss a campaign to encourage healthy eating and active living among residents, as well as its response to the county civil grand jury's report on .

The council meeting is Tuesday at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
