Landmark Hermosa: Lifeguard Headquarters
If you guessed the lifeguard headquarters for this morning's trivia, you were right.
For years lifeguards have monitored Hermosa Beach's coastline, and the city has celebrated their presence since establishing its first lifeguard service in 1926.
After an influx of beach patrons and residents in the 1930s, then-Hermosa Beach Mayor Logan Cotton commissioned Los Angeles County and Hermosa Beach lifeguards to join forces under the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Service.
County lifeguards now cover 72 miles of California's coastline from San Pedro to Malibu, and the sits in Hermosa Beach.

Until 1972, the lifeguard headquarters were located at the foot of Herondo Street and North Harbor Drive on the Redondo-Hermosa Beach border.
The headquarters then was moved to where it now stands on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier.

The southern section lifeguard headquarters houses the nation's largest ocean lifeguard organizations. Full-time and seasonal lifeguards annually serve about 20 million visitors along the county's southern coast, from San Pedro to Marina del Rey.
An estimated 5,000 rescues are made yearly while more than 1,000 are made in Hermosa Beach each summer, according to the Los Angeles County Coastal Monitoring Network.
