Surf and Smack

The community gears up for the Hermosa Beach Surfer's Walk of Fame induction ceremony and beach volleyball.

Family fun awaits in Hermosa Beach as films will be screened, surf legends are honored and volleyball teams have a smack fest. Here are some local events soon to hit town:

Lunafest

Films for and by women will be showcased at the Hermosa Beach Community Center on Thursday from 5:30 p.m to 9 p.m. as part of . The short film festival and fundraiser, hosted by Soroptimist International Manhattan Beach, is an effort to promote awareness about women’s issues.

The film Touch by director and producer Jen McGowan will be screened along with others. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Mothers and daughters can purchase pre-sale tickets online for $25.

Surf Film

Another night of film will hit town Friday as the world premiere of Creative Destruction will be at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse during the (see accompanying photo). The event begins at 6 p.m. with live music.

The 2011 will be in attendance as a silent auction and art show are held. Dinner and drinks will be served. The South Bay Boardrider’s Club will announce its winners, and the night ends with the world premiere of Creative Destruction.

Pre-sale tickets are available now at both Spyder Surf shops. Proceeds benefit the Hermosa Beach Historical Society Museum and Surfer’s Walk of Fame.

Walk of Fame

The 2011 Hermosa Beach induction ceremony will be at the Hermosa Beach Pier on Saturday at 11 a.m. Tom Rice and Richard Mobley will be honored for their contributions to the sport of surfing.

Smackfest

The co-ed beach volleyball tournament hits town Saturday as top athletes to beginners face off in four-person games. Proceeds from the event benefit the Southern California Foundation for Children. Check-in is at 7 a.m. on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier.
