The median price of single-family homes have increased,
Home prices in Los Angeles County jumped by 5.1 percent in April compared to the previous month, but the number of sales dipped slightly, the California Association of Realtors announced today, noting that statewide home sales reached their highest level in more than two years. In Los Angeles County, the median price of a single-family home was $286,800 in April, up from $272,920 in March. Last month's median price was down 1.3 percent from April 2011, when the median was $290,600, according to CAR. Home sales dipped in the county by 2.9 percent between March and April, and the April sales number was 0.6 percent lower than April 2011. Southern California Gas Co. warned its customers Monday about a scam in which the culprits tell victims they can get credits on their utility bills if they provide information such as a Social Security number. According to the gas company, scammers have visited customers in person, used social media sites and even sent text messages to victims claiming that President Barack Obama is offering a program of bill credits or direct payment of bills. Gas Co. officials said workers for the utility always carry proper identification when visiting customers, and they do not randomly call or text customers asking for Social Security numbers or other personal information. On Friday, May 11, from 3 to 8 p.m., Frito-Lay is partnering with Ralphs stores across the country for Free Flavor Friday. As part of the event, Frito-Lay plans to give away more than 2 million sample bags of its new products, including Doritos Jacked tortilla chips in Enchilada Supreme and Smoky Chipotle BBQ. The stores will also be giving away samples of the newest Ruffles potato chip flavors, including BBQ Rib and Bacon and Cheddar Potato Skins flavors. Prices are up compared to a week ago, but the streak in increases ended today.
A six-day streak of increases ended today when the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County fell one-tenth of a cent to $4.232. The average price rose 5.3 cents during the streak, including four-tenths of a cent on Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. Gas at Hermosa Beach's two stations, as reported on the AAA site, is priced on both sides of the county average, with the Arco station at 1131 Pacific Coast Highway at $4.16, and gas at the Mobil station, 931 Pacific Coast Highway, at $4.30. Several businesses are staying open late and offering specials for the monthly event.
Once again, it's a First Thursday, which means that several Hermosa Beach businesses downtown will stay open late and offer various specials to residents and visitors between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. Java Man will not only stay open late, but feature Jack Tracy and friends playing island ukelele music. Gum Tree Cafe will have live music by Justin Dzuban on the deck of the restaurant, and will feature their Aussie BBQ. Among other businesses offering specials, Star Antique Mart will pay the sales tax for purchases made during the evening. The monthly event is sponsored by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau.

More than $150,000 was raised in support of the Richstone Family Center with the help of the participants of this year's 25th Annual Richstone Walk, which took place on Sunday, April 28. Walkers, consisting of school children, business owners and friends, traversed the ground from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back again.

The number of default notices sent to homeowners in Los Angeles County is at its lowest level in five years.
The number of Los Angeles County homes slipping toward foreclosure dropped by 18 percent in the first quarter of the 2012, compared to the same period the previous year, a real estate information service reported Tuesday. Lenders sent default notices to 11,443 homeowners in Los Angeles County in the first quarter, down from the 2011 first-quarter total of 13,957, according to San Diego-based DataQuick. Statewide, default notices were sent to 56,258 homeowners in the first quarter of the year, DataQuick reported. That was an 8.5 percent drop from the previous quarter's 61,517 notices and down 17.6 percent from the first quarter in 2011, when 68,239 default notices were sent. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County declined today for the 28th consecutive day, dropping four-tenths of a cent to $4.207, its lowest amount since Feb. 23. According the AAA site, gasoline at the Arco station at 1131 Pacific Coast Highway, is selling at $4.10 a gallon for regular, while the Mobil station at 931 Pacific Coast Highway has regular going for $4.34 a gallon. The average price for the county is 3.5 cents less than a week ago, 17.1 cents lower than one month ago and 1.7 cents below what it was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The average price has decreased 15.5 cents over the past 28 days, including four-tenths of a cent on Sunday.

So a "60s Jazz Club" used to be where The Lighthouse is? Sorry, but The Lighthouse IS that same club - in fact, The Lighthouse has been there since the 1940s.
