John J. Mebius, 66, a retired captain of the , died on Feb. 29 at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, according to the police department's Facebook page.
Mebius joined the Glendale Police Department where he served for several years before he was transferred to the Hermosa Beach Police Department in 1969, the department said. At the time Mebius was 24 years old.
During his tenure in Hermosa, Mebius at one point served as acting Chief of Police, according to the department. He retired after 29 years of service as a captain, the department said.
Mebius was born August 17, 1945 in Leeuwarden, Holland.
