Pier Plaza is the start point for a host of races and walk events for all levels and ages of athletes starting Saturday morning, as the HB 5000 kicks.
The 5K race event starts with a Skateboard 5K for ages 12 and under, with other race starts staggered throughout the morning. In addition to traditional 5k's for men and women, there will be a baby jogger race, a walk, and a whole brace of age-group races for all ages, including 2-year-olds.
"It's a toddle dash," said race coordinator Jeff Atkinson. "It's mostly about parents wanting to see their kids crash into each other."

Atkinson was just teasing, but he did say that races for the little ones do get kids into the fun and joys of playing actively outside.
The race is co-sponsored by The Village Runner in Manhattan Beach, along with Spyder Surfboards and Shaggo. Online regstration is closed, but entries are still being accepted today at The Village Runner, 1840 Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach, and tomorrow at the race check-in at Pier Plaza.
