Hermosa Celebrates Passover in Interfaith Ritual

Faiths unite as Temple Shalom holds a Seder dinner with St. Cross by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

Jewish and Christian families celebrated Passover together Tuesday night in Hermosa Beach with an interfaith at St. Cross by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, in conjunction with  Temple Shalom of the South Bay. About 70 people of the Jewish faith joined about 60 people of the Episcopalian faith to break bread as part of a local tradition.

Passover, which began Monday night and continues for eight days, is the Jewish holiday that celebrates the exodus of the ancient Israelites who were freed from slavery in Egypt. It is traditional for Jewish families to gather together on the first night of Passover for a special meal called a Seder.
