Hermosa Escapes Storm Ravages

The weekend storm that wreaked havoc elsewhere did little damage and no power outages.

While nearby areas reported trees down and power outages, Hermosa Beach rode out Sunday's storm with little to no damage and plenty of electricity.

The storm, which dumped a little over an inch of rain on the area, according to the National Weather Service, did cause some flooding when a roof leaked at the Hermosa Beach Police Department, according to city Superintendent of Public Works Ells Freedman. But Freedman said that crews went out quickly and got things patched by Sunday night.

"We were pretty much ready for it," Freedman said, adding the power stayed on for the city, unlike Redondo Beach, which saw upwards 1,800 residents lose power.
