Smackfest

Why go: It calls itself the largest coed in the country. Proceeds benefit Southern California Foundation for Children and the after party is at Sangria.

Shamrock carnival
Where and when: Aviation Park at Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Redondo Beach; Saturday and Sunday
Why go: There's something for everyone at . Crazy rides for the teenagers, sweet and fun rides for the little ones, and plenty of food and drink for the whole family.

Cooking class
Where and when: Lido di Manhattan, 1550 Rosecrans Ave., Manhattan Beach; Saturday, 12 p.m.
Why go: You'll learn not only an amazing Mexican feast (including salsa, carne asada tacos, crab enchiladas with green mole, and "fried" ice cream) but also how to concoct the ultimate margarita.

Kim Blankinship tournament

Why go: The comes back to Hermosa Beach. The event includes music and raffles, as well as an opportunity to raise money for scholarships.

Relay for life
Where and when: Alta Vista Elementary School, 815 Knob Hill Ave., Redondo Beach; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.
Why go: Teams from all over the country come together to compete in . The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a chance for communities to celebrate those who have bravely faced cancer, remember loved ones lost and to fight back against the disease.
