Landmark Hermosa: Betty Evans Bench

If you guessed the Betty Evans memorial bench in front of the Hermosa Beach Historical Society Museum for this morning's trivia, you were right.

A brown bench was installed in front of the 's entrance about four years ago in memory of longtime Hermosa Beach resident Betty Evans, according to City Council meeting minutes.

Betty, who died in 2005, was a staff writer for the Easy Reader, recognized as the Woman of the Year in 1981, and authored several cookbooks, according to the Hermosa Beach Historical Society.

The bench at the museum was donated by Betty's family and reads: "Betty Evans, 5 August 1927 - 12 December 2005, She Loved Hermosa Beach."

The bench was placed at the museum as Betty helped found the original Hermosa Beach Historical Society Museum, according to the society's records.

Another bench was later installed next to Betty's in memory of her husband, Gordon, who died last year in March. Also written on his memorial bench is "He Loved Hermosa Beach."
