Landmark Hermosa: Clark Building

If you guessed Clark Building for this morning's trivia, you were right.

Cypress Park is home to a number of Hermosa landmarks and clubs, such as Clark Stadium and the Lawn Bowling Club, in addition to one of the city's oldest standing facilities: the Clark Building.

Clark Building, built in 1936, was the main gathering hall for community functions. Many Hermosans celebrated their weddings and parties at this historical venue that had a room capacity for about 200 people.

Clark Building also served as a meeting space for the Hermosa Beach Men’s Club and Card Club.

The building later received a complete exterior renovation in the art deco fashion in February 2009.

New windows and doors were installed, lined with a light green paint that accompanies the black Clark Building sign, which is styled in a decorative font.

Before the new millennium, a June 23, 1998 bid proposal recommended reserving Clark Building for nonprofit, community, school or civic organizations to use. City Council approved the suggestion, adding that the space also could be rented and available for private parties.

The building has since been used for community workshops, Hermosa Garden Club and Woman's Club meetings, church events, and aerobics classes.
