Landmark Hermosa: Edith Rodaway Friendship Park

If you guessed the Edith Rodaway Friendship Park for this morning's trivia, you were right.

A mini-park on the corner of Prospect and Hollowell avenues where residents walk their dogs, play basketball or simply enjoy fresh air was named after Hermosa Beach’s Miss Edith Rodaway, according to Hermosa Beach Historical Society archives.

Edith was the daughter of J.W. Rodaway, who was the contractor and builder of St. Cross by-the-Sea Church, the first church building in the city, according to the historical society account.

The park reportedly was named after Edith in 1988, after her death in 1987.

Years following, the nonprofit Friends of the Park joined city officials in a renovation project for the park, and Edith Rodaway Friendship Park was formally reopened in 2007 with new benches, picnic tables, and basketball courts, according to a notice in the Easy Reader.
