Landmark Hermosa: Hermosa Fire Department

If you guessed the Hermosa Beach Fire Department in today's photo, you were correct.

Today's Landmark Hermosa is the concrete tower connected to the building.

According to Hermosa Beach Fire Chief , the tower was once used as a training facility where, among other activities, firefighters honed their rappelling technique.

Constructed with the fire station in 1959, the tower has since been deemed unusable for training activities due to its age, said Lantzer.

Despite its retirement as a training facility though, the tower still houses essential radio communication antennas for the fire department along with Hermosa Beach's antenna.

The noon siren, familiar to many Hermosa Beach residents and visitors alike, sounds from the tower as well.

Lantzer says that the fire department hopes to build a new training facility in the future to replace the current tower.

Congratulations to Tom F. who was the first to guess the correct location of today's photo.  Rick Koenig and Patrick Kovac also guessed correctly.
