Landmark Hermosa: OLG School

If you guessed Our Lady of Guadalupe School for this morning's trivia, you were right.

Our Lady of Guadalupe School celebrates its 50th anniversary this year at Hermosa Beach’s .

The school was established under the direction of the Carmelite Sisters of Oklahoma in 1961, according to the church, and a convent was built for the sisters within two years.

The sisters taught students based on Catholic values and stayed at the school until a drop of vocations forced them to leave the parish in 1974, according to the church.

Now, decades later, the school continues to teach grades K-8 and celebrates the completion of a , as well as the addition of a new junior high classroom to campus.

The school has scheduled a special mass and open house for Oct. 9 at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate these milestones.
