Landmark Hermosa: Public Library

Yes, those plants are in front of Hermosa Beach's Public Library.

When we posted the picture of the plants, we were pretty sure they were Yuccas, but reader Gretchen Hix verified for us that they are.

And they are planted on the southeast corner of Hermosa Beach's Public Library. The library has been a part of the Los Angeles County Public Library system since 1913, according to the County Library website's branch history page. The library and its collections have been housed in at least six different buildings since it opened - almost all of them originally built for other purposes, including the former dance pavilion on the pier, which housed the library from 1925 to 1957, when it moved into a former post office.

The current building was constructed for the library, which moved there in 1962.

In addition to Gretchen Hix, Rick Koenig also guessed the location correctly. Congratulations and we'll have another bit of Hermosa trivia next week.
