Paraders Revel in St. Patrick's Tradition

Hermosa's annual parade cloaks downtown in green and draws thousands for a one-of-a-kind St. Patrick's Day celebration.

St. Patrick's Day is still four days away, but festivities were in full swing Saturday morning as crowds gathered downtown to watch Hermosa Beach's annual parade. South Bay area marching bands, organizations and city officials—most decked in green—took part in the procession along Pier Avenue.

Movie icons also appeared at the event, including Darth Vader and his Star Wars brethren, Robocop, and a convoy of DeLorean DMC-12's, popularly referred to as the "Back to the Future" car.

Co-chairmen Travers Devine and Jean Cullen organized the first parade in 1995. Eventually, volunteers and the city assumed production due to the boom in attendance. This year's event was sponsored by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce.
