Sandmen to Take Over Beach in Holiday Contest
Hermosa Beach's sand snowman contest kicks off Saturday. Winners are awarded in such categories as most unique, funniest and best dressed.
Frosty and others will rise from the sand Saturday as the city hosts its annual .
Residents are invited to gather just north of the at 8:45 a.m. to take part in the challenge or watch the sand morph into snowmen—after all, Yahoo! Sports last week included the local tradition in its list of "weird snow building sports."

The sand competition is open to all ages—just bring your shovel, holiday gear and game face.
The building begins at 9 a.m. and expect judging at 11:15 a.m. Winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m. in the following categories: Hermosa Beach favorite; most unique; most traditional; best dressed; and funniest.
