Surf Festival to Take Over Beach Cities

The weekend marks the return of the 50th annual International Surf Festival.

This year’s International Surf Festival kicks off with an array of events—from bodysurfing to the six-man. Here’s a look at the upcoming local happenings.

Laguna arts festival and pageant

Where and when: 710 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach; Friday, 3:30 p.m. to midnight.

International surf festival

Where and when: Hermosa Beach Pier; Friday, 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday

Why go: Head down to the beach and watch athletes . Sports include paddleboarding, volleyball, running, sand soccer and, of course, surfing.

Comedian Laura Hayden show

Where and when: Neptunian Women's Club, 920 Highland Ave., Manhattan Beach; Friday, 8 p.m.

Why go: Comedian Laura Hayden presents her multimedia show I Didn't Mean to be a Virgin in the 80's at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland next month—but her Los Angeles fans are invited Friday.
