Thanksgiving Spotlight: Tracy Hopkins

Name: Tracy Hopkins

City of residence: Hermosa Beach

Occupation: I am a stay-at-home mom, a volunteer in the community and also for the church I am a member of which is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How long have you lived in HB? I have lived in Hermosa Beach with my husband for 21 years. My family has had four generations who have lived here.

What are some things that you like about HB? I like the ocean, the sea breezes and how beautiful the sunsets are. I also like the community's continued concern and involvement in making this a great city for residents, businesses and visitors. It is also really nice to be able to work regularly in coordination with the city during community events. 

What don’t you like about HB? I don't like that I can't be even more involved in more of the many good causes and events that take place here in Hermosa Beach. 

What will you be doing on Thanksgiving and whom will you be with? This Thanksgiving season our family will be gathering together around the table and sharing expressions of gratitude and thankfulness for the blessings that we have.

What will your Thanksgiving meal consist of? Our Thanksgiving meal will have ham, turkey, the traditional side fixings, and a family favorite sparkling cider.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? My favorite Thanksgiving dish is roasted turkey with gravy, especially the dark meat portion. 

Why? The reason this is my favorite dish is that for me the dark meat is so juicy and really satisfies my taste buds. I also think the fact that so much time and effort from loving hands is put into preparing it makes it taste that much more delicious to me.  

What is your favorite thing about Thanksgiving? My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is the time we take to express gratitude to loved ones and thankfulness for our many blessings. I will share that I am grateful for this nation I live in and for the blessings of freedom it is so easy to take for granted. I will also share that I am grateful for my family, especially for my hard working husband and two great kids! I will also share how I have been blessed with the opportunity God has given me to serve my family, my church and my community.

What was your childhood Thanksgiving like? The traditions of Thanksgiving from my childhood have carried on into my adult life. The gathering of loved ones, expressing gratitude, acknowledging blessings and enjoying a deliciously prepared meal continues.

What’s your favorite hang out spot in HB? My home with my family is my favorite hang out spot. I otherwise love the easy parking at Scotty's restaurant near The Strand and enjoy going there occasionally to have a meal with family or friends and taking in the views of the beach while enjoying the company of others.

How would you describe Hermosa Beach in three words? Historical, community and adventurous.
