Hermosa Beach

Hermosa Beach Landmark, The Green Store, Closes Its Doors: A fixture in Hermosa Beach for more than 30 years, The Green Store will close its doors for good Aug. 31. Located at the corner of Hermosa Avenue and 22nd Street, generations of Hermosa Beach residents and beach goers have frequented the convenience store for everything from sunblock to satisfying a sweet tooth.

5 Potential Candidates for City Council Pull PapersFive Hermosa Beach residents are taking the first step in their potential bids for a seat on City Council, according to the city clerk's office. Carolyn J. Petty, Nanette Barragan, Gregory J. Savelli, H.S. Fangary and current Mayor Patrick “Kit” Bobko stopped by city hall earlier this week to pick up, aka "pull," the necessary documents and forms they must complete and submit in order to run for office.

Power Outage Thursday Impacts Businesses, ResidentsA power outage in the downtown area forced some businesses to close while others made the best of the situation,according a news report in the Easy Reader. Power has been restored, according to Southern California Edison's online power outage map which no longer shows any power out in Hermosa Beach.

Redondo Beach

Task Force Busts Alleged Work Van Theft Ring (Updated): Authorities on Wednesday were seeking four people in connection with a vehicle-theft case that has already resulted in 11 arrests of suspects accused of stealing work vans from plumbers, painters, landscapers and construction workers in the South Bay and Long Beach.

New Craft Brewery Up for Approval in Redondo BeachIf all goes as planned, Redondo Beach will get its very own slice of the South Bay craft brewery boom with the opening of Coastline Brewing. Redondo Beach city staff recommended that the planning commission approve the brewery's conditional use permit, which would allow Coastline to move forward with its plans. 

West Nile Virus Found in Redondo Beach: Fourteen dead crows found in Redondo Beach tested positive for West Nile Virus, the city announced Thursday in a notice posted on its website. "Redondo Beach Animal Control officers have retrieved an unusual number of sick or dead crows in the city," according to the notice. 

Palos Verdes

Filing Period Opens for RPV, RHE ElectionsThe filing period for the November municipal elections in the cities of Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates—as well as the filing period for candidates for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District Board of Education and the Palos Verdes Library District Board of Trustees—began Monday.

PVPUSD Truancy Rates Among Lowest in L.A. County (Map)The number of students absent from school without an excuse within the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District in 2011-12 was among the lowest in the county with the exception of Palos Verdes High School and Lunada Bay Elementary, according to recently released state figures.

Officials: Stay Cool This Summerhelicopter rescue of a hiker from Del Cerro Park in Rancho Palos Verdes on Saturday afternoon served to underscore the dangers of exposure to high temperatures. The hiker was suffering from exposure when paramedics airlifted him out of the park, according to a representative of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Manhattan Beach

Body Found in Polliwog Park Identified as Long Beach Man: The decomposing body found at Polliwog Park last Thursday has been identified as a 21-year-old Hispanic man from Long Beach, said Lt. Dave Coleman of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Tuesday. Mario Herrera, the father of a 2-year-old, was reported missing by his family the day before his body was discovered on a fertilizer pile near a public ball field, parking lot and swimming pool. He was reportedly last seen on July 6th.

City Councilman Gains Spot on ICA Board: Manhattan Beach City Councilman Wayne Powell was elected to the Independent Cities Association board of directors at their general membership meeting in San Diego last weekend.

Gun Used in Radio Shack Robbery: A Radio Shack employee was held at gunpoint Sunday as a man demanded the store's Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 cell phones, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department.
