Where to Watch Fireworks?

Unapproved fireworks are banned in Hermosa Beach, but you can catch professional shows in nearby towns this July 4.

The Fourth of July means lighting up the grill, kicking back on the patio or deck and enjoying a cold drink with friends and family. Then when the sun sets—fireworks light up the sky.

But as Independence Day will be observed across the country Monday, fireworks (a traditional part of the holiday) are not expected to be part of the celebrations in Hermosa Beach.

Municipal code states that the possession, use and discharge of fireworks are prohibited, "with the exception of fireworks displays (that) are approved by both the fire department and the city council." No shows have been authorized this year.

Hermosa Beach families can still enjoy professional fireworks shows in neighboring communities—the Los Angeles County Fire Department has listed online where fireworks will be safely displayed in the area.

On July 4, fireworks are scheduled to light up the sky next door in Redondo Beach's Seaside Lagoon at 200 Portofino Way at 9 p.m., according to the department. Fireworks will also be displayed off the coast in Torrance near Palos Verdes and Via Rivera at 9 p.m.
