Artists Chalk It Up

The fundraising festival held at local Redondo Union High School promotes the arts in South Bay schools.

More than 300 people attended the local art group Hands on Art's annual  Saturday at Redondo Union High School, which featured chalk art, a silent auction, food, lemonade, jewelry vendors and more.

"It's been fantastic," said event organizer Erika Snow Robinson. "[There are] so many more people this year than last year."

Attendees could purchase squares in three different sizes: 2-by-2 feet, 3-by-3 feet or 5-by-5 feet. More than 90 people purchased squares at the event, according to a sign-up sheet; others pre-purchased their squares via Paypal.

Multiple organizations in the area sponsored the largest squares, which cost $100.

As part of the event, Hands on Art brought local bands, and the Redondo Union Salsa Club performed for the crowd. Artist Silvia Peluso also taught a wire-wrapping and jewelry creating workshop.
