Landmark Hermosa: The Pier Plaza Clock

If you guessed the Kiwanis Clock Tower in Pier Plaza for our trivia this morning, you were right.

Even though the Pier Plaza town clock is one of the newest additions to Hermosa Beach landmarks, it has already made an impact in shaping the image of downtown.

City Council agreed to place the 15-foot pedestal clock, donated by the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis, in Pier Plaza three years ago.

An alternate proposal was made to place the clock at the mid-point of Pier Plaza with benches surrounding. But dissenting votes from council members finalized the permanent location of the clock at the end of the Plaza on Hermosa Avenue, where it sits now.

Made by the Fancy Street Clock Company of Rock Island, Ill., the $13,000 timepiece debuted on August 8, 2007 at a dedication organized by the Kiwanis.

Congratulations to Brittny Tacker, Tom French, and Mike Naylor for winning today's Landmark Hermosa. We'll have a new landmark to guess next Friday.
