Photos: Sand Snowmen Come to Life in Hermosa
The annual Sand Snowman contest puts a beach twist on a winter tradition.
Although Hermosa Beach may have a lack of snow, there is certainly no shortage of sand. About 15 groups of people gathered Saturday morning near the Pier to put their personal touch on sand sculptures during the annual competition. The competition gives out awards in categories such as "funniest" and "best dressed."
This year's winners were:
- Best Dressed - "Team Justice" Support Our Troops Sand Snowman
Cy Peru, Xan Mavromatis, Bailey Hayes, Emerson Hayes - Most Unique - "Sanda Bear" Sand Snowman
Emmy Ayers, Toni Vanbuskirk, Nathan Vanbuskirk, Paul Vanbuskirk - Most Traditional
Kelly, Mike, Georgia, and Ryan McKnight - Funniest - "Yurtle the Christmas Turtle" Sand Snowman
Monique Rohrbach, Blake Rohrbach, Joie Culligan, Ty Culligan, Ryan Hart, Kayla Bennick, Kayla Sugimoto - Hermosa Favorite - "Beach Volleyball" Sand Snowmen
