'Sylvia,' the Dog Tale, on Stage in Hermosa Beach

Get set for some doggone fun as A.R. Gurney’s “Sylvia,” staged by the Surf City Theatre Company, opens Saturday in the 2nd Story Theatre in Hermosa Beach.

The tale of a dog that enters a married couple's perhaps routine life is full of twists and turns as the canine turns their world into something new.

Surf City, under executive producers Lisa Leonard and Frank Prater, is in its second season. Their goal is to present uplifting, quality productions, according to Leonard. to the beach cities at the 99-seat  at 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach.

"Sylvia" is rated P.M.D. or Potty Mouth Dog, said Prater, who advises folks keep the kids at home.

“Sylvia” will be staged Saturday, June 15 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, June 16 at 2 p.m.; Friday, June 21 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, June 22 at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 23 at 2 p.m.

The 99-seat 2nd Story Theatre is located at 710 Pier Ave. in the Hermosa Beach Community Arts Center.
