How to Wear Neon on Your Nails

How to pay homage to your teen years without getting stuck in a style warp—go for a mani/pedi. Included is a video showing you the latest ring combining style tips to pair with your neon nails.

You can take the girl out of the '80s but you can't take the neon out of the women's mani/pedi.

Badly in need of fresh toe envy and on my way to the beach, I decided to try on Hermosa Avenue.

All that purple decor inside must have opened up my chakras. I found myself picking up colors conjuring memories past of cotton candy pink, orange crush and high school hot fuschia. Undecided on which one, I decided on all three.

Characteristically? I pedicure once a month. Polishing my nails? Maybe once a year.

Not sure what divine goddess of new wave creativity had came over me, I chose to use the three shades alternating for my mani and for my pedi. (Style tip—do not match your hands and feet in the same formation when trying several shades at once.)

The results were super sentimental and fun, allowing me to remember my youth but updated for the grown-up I am today.

I have made a video showing my manicure along with this summer's hottest trends (like how to combine your rings—check out the video accompanying this piece.)

When trying bright nail colors, you must commit to colors in your wardrobe that will work all week with your neon mani/pedi for the full styled effect.

Pair your pedicure with a rhinestone toe ring. Nothing says sexy summer beach day than a toe ring. Leave the ring at the beach, otherwise could look less than classy. (Where to buy a toe ring? Try Ya Ya's in nearby El Segundo.)

Neon green in the neon family is the most neutral and will go with almost everything in your wardrobe. Try lean neon green flip flops from Banana Republic.

Neon shades are totally on "end of summer sale" at this very moment. Try a new trend for half the price.

And if neon is not your thing, create the same triple-color effect by using darker nail lacquer's every three nails. Same for your toes, use two shades similar but not the same.

I usually go to Milan Nails in nearby Plaza El Segundo. It's chic in its decor and always super clean—which brings me to my only comment or critique for Elegant Nails. The purple foot towels seemed much too stained for customers to put their feet on. I hope they will take note for my next divine goddess of creativity take over.
