2 Hermosa Spots Make L.A. Times List

The Comedy and Magic Club is the Readers' Choice for best comedy club; and soon-to-open The Counter is chosen for best burger.

Two Hermosa Beach establishments were listed as winners in this year's Los Angeles Times Readers' Choice poll. 

The Comedy and Magic Club on Hermosa Avenue was included as a readers' choice for best comedy club in the entertainment category.

The Counter, which will soon open in Hermosa Beach, was chosen as best burger joint in the restaurant category.

More than 40,000 readers participated in the Times' best-of-Southern-California poll, which was featured as an insert in the Sunday edition of the newspaper.

Categories in the poll also included shopping, services and education.

has been a part of Hermosa Beach since 1978.

The venue "packs a serious punch with talented comedians and magicians appearing on a nightly basis—, for instance, is a Sunday-night regular," according to The Times.

The Counter, which has locations around the world, is scheduled to open a new eatery this summer in the building that once housed on Pier Avenue.

The restaurant offers various variations of the classic hamburger, even allowing customers to choose their own ingredients to build a burger. The restaurant has been around since 2003, according to its website.
