'Business Person of Year' at Sangria

Assemblywoman Betsy Butler names Kevin Barry, co-owner of Sangria restaurant in Hermosa Beach, as the 53rd Assembly District Business Person of the Year.

Kevin Barry, co-owner of on Pier Plaza, has been named this year’s Business Person of the Year from the 53rd Assembly District, said the office of Assemblywoman Betsy Butler in a statement Monday.

Barry was selected for his charitable contributions to Hermosa Beach and the surrounding South Bay community, which include helping to raise more than $3 million for local schools and nonprofit organizations.

Some of the groups that have benefited from Barry’s efforts include the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation, the Surfrider Foundation, The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation and the Dig4Kids Education Foundation.

Barry was honored during a ceremony in Sacramento sponsored by the California Small Business Association on Monday.

“Kevin has set an exemplary standard for local business owners with years of active involvement and support for many community organizations,” Butler said in a statement. “I am honored to recognize him as my 53rd Assembly District Small Business Person of the Year.”

Barry has worked as a restaurateur in Hermosa Beach for nearly 30 years at Sangria.
