Coming Out of the Green Closet: Medical Marijuana and the LGBTQ Community

THC Nation & Steve Collett present Coming Out of the Green Closet: Medical Marijuana and the LGBTQ Community at Steve’s home in Huntington Beach on May 20, 2012 from 4pm-6pm. The event will include a presentation by HIV/AIDS organization The Wall - Las Memorias Project, the launch of a new viral video campaign by THC Nation, and live music with donations going benefitting  AIDS/LifeCycle. Coming Out of the Green Closet aims to change hearts and minds, laying the groundwork for a deeply personal campaign to bring about the end of medical marijuana prohibition.

THC Nation was co-founded by Jay Matthew (political organizing background) and Felicia Carbajal (Non-Profit Development and small business management and marketing background)  in 2012. Steve Collett (Congressional candidate in the 33rd district) is a supporter of the cause as well as being the author of Regulate Marijuana like Wine, a California Voter Initiative. Jay and Felicia created THC Nation out of need, drawing inspiration from Marshall Ganz, the mind behind Barack Obama’s successful personal narrative organizing model in his 2008 presidential campaign.

THC Nation is unveiling a new campaign that asks, “Do you remember how it felt?” at Coming Out of the Green Closet. The aim of this groundbreaking campaign for the Medical Marijuana community  is to blur of the lines between coming out as LGBTQ and coming out as a person who uses medical marijuana, to show that there is no difference, and that patients face many of the same stigmas and prejudices as LGBTQ people.

About THC Nation

THC Nation’s purpose is to organize and educate to end marijuana prohibition, using grassroots community engagement. THC Nation has already begun waging campaigns; they now have their sights set on Sen. Dianne Feinstein whose co-signature they hope to get on Nancy Pelosi’s letter to President Obama (as well as congress). The letter asks Sen. Feinstein to remember her time as Mayor of San Francisco during the height of the AIDS crisis, and all of those who needlessly suffered around her, and to reevaluate her stance on marijuana as medicine and not as a drug.
