Kings Extend Darryl Sutter's Contract

The Manhattan Beach resident is on the leadership team in place, and now retained, when the Los Angeles Kings won their first Stanley Cup. Many of the team's players live in MB and Hermosa Beach.

The Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings announced Friday they have given contract extensions to coach Darryl Sutter, who lives in Manhattan Beach, president-general manager Dean Lombardi and president of business operations Luc Robitaille.

Sutter was named the Kings coach Dec. 20, 2011, guiding them to a 25-13-11 record in the regular season as they qualified for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Campbell Conference. They went on to defeat the conference's first-, second- and third-seeded teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs and the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup Final to win the Stanley Cup for the first time in their 45-season history.

Lombardi has been general manager since April 21, 2006. Robitaille has been in his position since May 25, 2007.

"We are ecstatic that we have kept our leadership team in place, both on the hockey side with Dean and Darryl and on the business side with Luc and remain in position to continue competing for the Stanley Cup for many more years," team Governor Tim Leiweke said.

"They have all done a fantastic job in their respective areas and they have put together outstanding leadership teams. They collectively are a huge reason our franchise is enjoying the success we are enjoying. Now the challenge is to stay on top of that mountain."
