Landmark Hermosa: Cafe Boogaloo

If you guessed Cafe Boogaloo on Hermosa Avenue for this morning's trivia, you were right.

Locals have been sipping the cocktails, munching the , and jammin' the night away at on Hermosa Avenue for more than a decade, but the building that houses the popular venue has been a part of Hermosa for much longer.

The rustic brick structure used to hold inmates when it served as the city's jailhouse in 1914, with its barred cells facing the bustling streets of downtown.

As the city began to develop into a popular tourist attraction in later years, the jail was moved and boutiques and eateries opened along Hermosa Avenue.

It wasn't until 1995 when then-owner Steven Roberts introduced Hermosans to Café Boogaloo's Cajun bites, live blues and soulful tunes, and sunrise cocktails.

The restaurant quickly melded with the downtown area just a couple of years before other nightlife venues began to open on or near Pier Plaza.
