As the Scotty’s restaurant grew and developed in Hermosa’s vibrant downtown in the early 1990s, it might have been hard to believe the location once housed a humble Taco Bell.

Also in years prior, on the beach near Scotty's, just south of the Pier, an ocean aquarium used to sit. The aquarium opened in 1947, according to the Daily Breeze, which reported in an August 2006 article:

"Hermosa Beach's own mini Sea World stood just south of the Pier where Schumacher Plaza now is—or as the Daily Breeze put it in 1956: ‘Just walk to the foot of Pier Avenue and turn your feet to the right before they get wet. In front of you is a large gray building housing numerous specimen from the sea next door. It's the Ocean Aquarium.’ "

The aquarium reportedly closed about 10 years after it opened.
