Map: Hermosa Beach Unemployment Rate Among Lowest in State

Unemployment dipped in California in April from 9.4 percent to 9 percent with Hermosa Beach's jobless rate coming in at one of the lowest in the state, according to recently released figures from the California Employment Development Department.

Hermosa Beach's non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate dropped from 4.4 percent in March to 4.1 percent in April, remaining far below the state average.  

While Hermosa Beach fared well, the City of Los Angeles still remained above the average state unemployment rate at 10.3 percent. That number represented a decline from 11 percent unemployment in March.

The state's non-seasonally adjusted rate was 8.5 percent in April - seasonal adjustment accounts for seasonal shifts in labor such as increased construction and agricultural work in spring and summer - only non-seasonally adjusted figures are available for individual cities.

Conversely, the bright red cities have unemployment rates at least 50 percent higher than state average and the lighter red cities are between.
