There's a reason why Michael Strahan's Hermosa Beach townhome is on the market: the former NFL star turned football analyst is reported to be joining Kelly Ripa as the new co-host of Live! with Kelly.
Broadcasting & Cable first reported the news which was then confirmed by USA Today. Strahan will be seen in his new gig when the show makes its seasonal debut on Sept. 4. Ripa's previous co-host Regis Philbin retired about nine months ago after 28 years on the show, which films live in New York on weekdays. When Philbin and Ripa partnered, the show was called Live with Regis & Kelly.
Interestingly, Strahan will fly to Los Angeles for his weekend job on Fox NFL Sunday.
The 40-year-old Strahan was one of 59 co-hosts the Disney ABC Television Group have put to the test since Philbin's November departure and has been a guest co-host on Live 15 times, most recently on July 3.
Some of the other contenders for the spot appear to have been Anderson Cooper, Bachelor host Chris Harrison, former boy-bander Nick Lachey, and singer Josh Groban, Neil Patrick Harris and Saturday Night Live's Seth Meyers.
Strahan was a defensive end for the New York Giants for 15 seasons, setting a record for the most quarterback tackles in a single season and winning a Super Bowl in his last year. He tried his hand by starring in and producing the 2009 Fox sitcom Brothers which lasted a single season.
