Parading Hermosa's St. Patrick's Day

The annual parade has been a part of the city since 1995.

As crowds of spectators descend upon Pier Avenue to catch glimpses of green and pots of gold, Hermosa Beach will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with its annual South Bay parade on March 12.

The procession that has become a rich part of the community was first introduced in 1995, when co-chairmen Travers Devine and Jean Cullen organized the premier parade.

Since then, the parade has been produced by volunteers and the city, and now the , which has attracted hundreds of patrons to downtown Hermosa each year.

"It's one of our biggest days of the year," Chris Saufua, the general manager of Patrick Molloy's, . "Some of the traditional items that we had were green beer, corn beef and cabbage, and an Irish stew."

Along with local merchants, girl scouts, boy scouts, sports teams, school bands, community groups and city officials participate in the parade that fills Hermosa’s downtown streets with floats and music.

This year's St. Patrick’s Day parade will start on the corner of Pier Avenue and Valley Drive at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12.
