AAA: Travel Must-haves to Pack

The Auto Club recommends some unusual vacation "must-haves" to add to your packing list this summer. What's in your travel bag?

As Hermosa Beach residents pack their bags for much-needed vacation time this summer, travel agents at the Auto Club of Southern California have shared a list of items not to forget to bring on the road.

Some of the recommended “must-haves” are unusual, but necessary, according to AAA:

  • Empty bags—they’ll come in handy when the trinkets and souvenirs you buy don’t fit into your suitcase.
  • Trash bags—use them to store dirty or wet clothes.
  • Zip-sealed plastic bags—use them to store toiletries, leftover snacks, or even to keep brochures and postcards all in one place.
  • Neck pillow—research before you buy one so you get one that works for you and provides comfort while on a flight or on the road.
  • Small spray fan—it helps keep you cool in hot summer temperatures.
  • Folding chairs—if you’re on a road trip, bring it along so you have somewhere to sit during stops on the road.
  • Gadgets—you probably won’t forget your cell phone or digital camera, but many travelers often forget to bring along the charger or extra batteries.
  • Extension power cord—it’ll come in handy when you need to charge up your gadgets and the hotel room doesn’t have enough outlets.
  • Night light—just in case you need to find the bathroom late at night and the hotel room is dark, or if the kids won’t sleep without one.
  • Copies of identification—when traveling overseas, store a photocopy of your passport and all other documentation just in case you face an emergency or your identification is lost or stolen.
  • Travel diary—it’s a handy place to store brochures and postcards; then use it as a photo album after the trip.
