City to Enforce Holiday Rules and Closings

Officials remind residents about the ban on unapproved fireworks and also that government offices and local services will be closed Monday.

As Hermosa Beach prepares to observe Independence Day, big efforts have been made to remind residents that fireworks are prohibited in the city, according to municipal code.

The regulation states that the possession, use and discharge of fireworks are not allowed, "with the exception of fireworks displays (that) are approved by both the fire department and the city council."

A large sign was set up on Pier Plaza this week to remind residents and visitors of the rule. Locals who want to enjoy fireworks can watch shows Sunday at Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach or at Wilson Park in Torrance. Both events start at 9 p.m.

On Monday, all municipal offices, banks and U.S. financial markets will be closed in observance of holiday.

There will be no trash pickup or street sweeping Monday, but all Hermosa parking meters will be enforced on that day.  The only holidays the meters take off are Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
