Earthquake Strikes South Bay

A magnitude 3.3 earthquake which struck 2 miles south of Gardena is felt throughout the South Bay.

Some Hermosa Beach residents awoke early Saturday to a sharp jolt when a magnitude 3.3 earthquake struck the South Bay.

Though there were no immediate reports of damage, many residents were startled—and many took to Twitter to broadcast the news.

"Thought someone was trying to break into the house," tweeted Alexandra Eisner. "About to grab my pepper spray."

Bria Biggs, who plans to run in the Miss California 2012 pageant, representing the Beach Cities, tweeted, "Earthquake... OMG!"

While Olivia Beltran described the quake as "a quick jolt."

According to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch supervisor Robert Diaz, the LACFD received no calls regarding fires or earthquake damage.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which struck at 12:36 a.m., was approximately 2 miles south of Gardena.
