Women rule the California primary election and beachcombers strike gold.

Just in case you missed Patch's coverage this week, here is an overview of some of the latest news in Hermosa Beach.

California Votes

Local residents hit the polls  Tuesday. In the Democratic primary in the 36th Congressional District,  incumbent Jane Harman beat challenger Marcy Winograd by winning 58.8 percent of the vote. Voters also supported Meg Whitman as the Republican Party's nominee for governor. She will face Attorney General Jerry Brown in November.

Officer Injured

A Hermosa Beach police officer suffered moderate injuries when his motorcycle collided with a BMW as he was pulling over the vehicle for a traffic violation in Redondo Beach. Officer Anthony Parente is recovering from the accident at home.

Treasure Hunters

Local beachcombers have struck gold... and platinum and diamonds with their metal detectors. These hunters search the sand year round, and some find small fortunes in the South Bay.

Bicycle Crash

As locals flocked to Hermosa Avenue this weekend to watch the World Cup and visit the downtown Art Walk, a traffic accident left passersby at a standstill. A cyclist was injured when he hit a taxicab door in front of the BKB boutique Saturday afternoon.
