Films Show Hermosa's Hometown Heroes

Surf Film Fest 5 drew several hundred into the Hermosa Beach Playhouse Friday night.

As the surf reels rolled, so did the cheers for the hometown surfing heroes at Friday night's Surf Film Fest 5, part of Hermosa Beach's Legends of Surf Weekend. The event in the Hermosa Beach Playhouse drew several hundred attendees who mingled among the surf exhibits, silent auction and surf artwork.

The Hermosa Beach Historical Society Museum also hosted an open house that displayed the city's heritage as, perhaps, the true "Surf City, USA" - a distinction Hermosa residents like to proclaim is above that of Orange County's Huntington Beach.

Tiger Makin, who was inducted Saturday in the Surfer's Hall of Fame, also made an appearance Friday night. Remarks were also made by surfing champions Pat O'Connell (of Endless Summer II fame) and Brett Simpson.
