Gas Prices Continue to Drop

For the second straight week, the average price of a gallon of gasoline has dropped in Los Angeles County.

Hermosa Beach drivers continue to see some relief at the pump as gas prices fell for the second straight week this week.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline fell in Los Angeles County today for the 15th consecutive day, dropping eight-tenths of a cent to $4.285.

The average has dropped 12.6 cents over the past 15 days, including a half-cent on Wednesday, and is 4.7 cents less than one week ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

However, the average price is 10.5 cents more than one month ago and
22.7 cents higher than one year ago because of a 17.9-cent increase over a
seven-day span immediately preceding the decreases. The price hikes were blamed on low inventories stemming from the maintenance-related closures of refineries in Southern and Northern California.

Jeffrey Spring, a spokesperson for the Automobile Club of Southern California said that the continued price drop of gasoline indicates supply issues in California have been corrected or "at least not as bad as feared."

"However, the gas price drops have been smaller in recent days, so it’s uncertain how long the downward trend will continue," said Spring.
