Gone Fishin'? It's Free in California on Saturday

Hermosa Beach residents 16 and older can fish without a sport fishing license in California on Saturday, which is set to be the state's free fishing day.

Grab a pole—the California Department of Fish and Game will offer the second of statewide free fishing days this year on Saturday.

Anglers 16 and older will be able to cast bait without having to buy the normally required sport fishing license.

On these free fishing days, all fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect, according to the state department.

Every angler must have an appropriate report card if they are fishing for abalone, steelhead, sturgeon or spiny lobster anywhere in the state, or salmon specifically in the Smith and Klamath-Trinity River systems, according to the state.

And remember to check the rules and regulations on the Department of Fish Game website for the waters you plan to fish. Wardens will be on duty to enforce rules.
