Hermosa Reacts to Proposition 8 Ruling, Appeal
Patch talks to residents about a federal judge's decision to overturn a ban on same-sex marriage and the subsequent appeal filed by proposition supporters.
Supporters of California's ban on same-sex marriage — more commonly known as Proposition 8 — filed an appeal Thursday of a federal judge's ruling that the prohibition is unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker ruled Wednesday that the state's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage discriminates against gays and lesbians. Proponents of the ban filed the appeal to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.
Now the 9th circuit court will randomly assign the case to a three-judge panel for review. It remains unclear when or if same-sex marriages will again be performed in California.
