Hermosa Scores High In Walkability
The city ranks seventh in the state and deemed "very walkable" by Walkscore.com, which measures cities for their feet-friendliness.
Hermosa Beach is a "very walkable" town and most errands can be accomplished on foot, according to Walkscore.com.
The Seattle-based website ranks U.S. cities by how easily someone can navigate the areas on foot.
Hermosa Beach ranked as the seventh most walkable city in California, scoring 78 points out of 100.

The state average walk score was 50 points.
The score is calculated by measuring the walkability of an area. Points are awarded depending on the proximity of various amenities.

Hermosa Beach landed in the "very walkable" category.

Walkscore ranked a total of 2,500 U.S. cities, and 300 were labeled a "walker's paradise" for scoring above 90.
Nationwide, New York was named America’s most walkable city, followed by San Francisco, Boston and Chicago.
"The latest real estate trends show that homes and apartments in walkable areas are in higher demand and are worth more than their less-walkable counterparts," said Walkscore.com CEO Josh Herst in a statement Wednesday following the release of the rankings.
Christopher Leinberger, a non-resident Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution added that "an American family living in a house that is accessible only by car is spending on average 25 percent of their income on cars. Households in walkable communities spend less than half that amount."
