High Heat Hits the South Bay

Hot, dry conditions are forecast to continue through Thursday.

Beach-goers in Hermosa took in the sun Wednesday as a high-pressure system and offshore winds brought hot temperatures to Southern California, and more high heat is expected Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures on Wednesday reached a record 102 degrees in Long Beach, breaking the old record-high of 96, which was set in 1963.

But the heat won't last long, as a cooling trend is expected to begin Friday, with highs in the Beach Cities dropping to the 70s.
