Update: Power Restored to Downtown Hermosa

Two power outages—one planned and one unplanned—hit Hermosa Beach.

Power was restored to more than 1,150 Southern California Edison customers in Hermosa Beach by about 2 p.m. Sunday after equipment problems caused a blackout, according to Southern California Edison.

The unplanned outage, which affected much of downtown Hermosa, started at 4:05 a.m. Sunday, according to SCE's website.

Multiple stores, including Retail Boutique and on Manhattan Avenue, closed their doors for the day and canceled any scheduled appointments. , a cafe and gift store, closed the cafe part of the establishment.

At least one Hermosa Beach establishment—Frosted Cupcakery—reopened shortly after the power came back on.

A second, planned power outage affecting 28 customers began shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday and appeared to be centered near the corner of Prospect Avenue and Aviation Boulevard. SCE crews are repairing the equipment causing the problem, and power should be back by 6 p.m.
