Singles Population in Hermosa: Who's Got the Edge?

Patch looks at U.S. Census Bureau data to break down the male-to-female ratio in town.

Now Hermosa Beach Patch has decided to take a hard look at the numbers—exactly how many men compared to women live in town?

Well, the latest data was collected last year, and recorded 19,506 people living in Hermosa Beach.

Stanger wasn't too far off the mark when she coined Hermosa a "manspotting place," because for every 100 females there are about 111 men, according to census data.

The census bureau recorded that while 9,550 Hermosa Beach residents live in a house, more than half of those homes (57.7 percent) are nonfamily households.

According to the numbers, 2,058 single men are Hermosa Beach homeowners and 1,586 single women are Hermosa Beach homeowners. When it comes to cohabiting for the unmarried crowd, only 4 percent live with a partner.

Most of the single Hermosa men and women are between ages 25 and 29, which is also the largest age group in Hermosa Beach, at 13.4 percent of the population, according to census data.
