To Fiesta Or Not

The twice-yearly Fiesta Hermosa brings an estimated 150,000 people to downtown Hermosa Beach during its three-day run Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.

Presented by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Bureau, the Fiesta is a huge festival of food, fun, arts and crafts vendors, live music, kiddie carnival rides and more.

Staged since 1972, the Fiesta now offers beer and wine gardens that benefit Hermosa Beach organizations who provide free volunteer staffing.

Hermosa Beach locals, especially those who live close to the areas the Fiesta impacts, have choices to stay in town, go to the Fiesta or not. I've even heard of some people going out of town to avoid the Fiesta crowds that attend the event.

Here are a few comments from locals, taken from Facebook:

"Oh heck no. I avoid downtown Hermosa Beach on this weekend every year."

"Definitely going to Fiesta!"

"Stay - definitely - and volunteer at the beer garden! Great people, unique vendors (mostly), great music and great party!'

What do you do? And what Memorial Day traditions do you enjoy or participate in?
